This is the video clip of ESPN’s session with President Barack Obama and Andy Katz. The president fills out his bracket using a whiteboard, while adding extemporaneous commentary and explanations.

And some unapologetic zingers, clearly demonstrating that in basketball stepping on toes is part of the game.

“The Pac-10’s been lookin’ pretty weak this year,” says Obama.  Ouch. Way to step on your brother-in-law’s toes.

This exchange about the Duke vs. Texas first round matchup:

Obama: “I’ve gotta pick Duke.”

Katz: “The whole way, or …”

Obama (incredulously): “No, not the whole way!  C’mon!”

Ouch.  So much for Reggie Love’s toes.

About Syracuse, Katz asks if Obama watched the 6-overtime game the other night.  “I watched the highlights on ESPN,” says Obama, adding, “I can’t be stayin’ up ’til 2 in the morning, man.; I got work to do!”

About Arizona, Obama says unequivocally, “They just squeaked in, based on reputation.”  Ouch.  There go McCain’s toes.

Obama saved the best for last.  “The Tar Heels that are watchin’,” he says, turning to the camera after predicting that U.N.C. will win the title, “I picked you all last year and you let me down; this year, don’t embarrass me in front of the nation.”

O.M.G. There go the collective toes of the state that put him over the top in electoral votes.

But again, this is basketball.  In this sport, toes are not eligible for fouls.
