Oregon State coach Craig Robinson and the Beavers basketball team toured the U.S. Capitol on Thursday before an afternoon practice in preparation for their season opener against Howard tonight. The team also visited the Senate office of President-elect Barack Obama, Robinson’s brother-in-law, though Obama was not there.

WASHINGTON — If you’re looking for photos of the Oregon State men’s basketball team in President-elect Barack Obama’s Senate office, you won’t find them. OSU coach Craig Robinson, now known to the world as Michelle Obama’s brother, cautioned that the shots not end up on Facebook, MySpace or — irony forbid — Craigslist.

The photos do exist, though. Robinson said that even though the public is prohibited from taking snapshots in senators’ offices, the brother-in-law-elect gave his players permission.

The Beavers face Howard University tonight in both teams’ season opener amid a remarkable confluence of circumstances. The brother-in-law of the nation’s first African American president will debut as OSU coach in the nation’s capital, at the nation’s first historically black college.
