(From The Seattle Times Online: Women’s Hoops Blog)

We don’t get into politics much on this site. One of the wonderful things about sports in general and especially basketball is that it’s a place where people of vast backgrounds can get together in unity.

And I’m not just talking about the WNBA. There are just as many gays at Mariners games — and I’m not talking about the ones caught kissing.

But I have to weigh-in on this story in the Wall Street Journal about President-elect Barack Obama taking some flak for wanting to change the White House bowling alley to a basketball court, possibly with the NBA’s help.

Obama campaigned on change and now he can’t create change? Let the man play ball! He’s got the dirtiest job in America right now and if shooting hoops helps his staff blow off steam and get creative on how to save us some jobs and get our lives back to normalcy, please let him do it. Plus, I have to admit, it would be so cool to know there’s a court in the White House.

Obama has long showed his love for the game, a former player who has even played pick-up games with WNBA center Alison Bales and attended Chicago Sky matchups. I hope the tradition continues in the White House. That’s all.
