All-Star notebook: Players eager to see First Fan

ST. LOUIS — With President Barack Obama slated to throw the ceremonial first pitch of the All-Star Game, he naturally was a topic of conversation on Monday. Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter famously told George Bush to throw a strike at last year’s All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium, lest he be booed. What’s his advice for President Obama? “Don’t get hurt,” he said. Jeter’s teammate, Mark Teixeira, knows what he’d ask the president if given the opportunity. “Who was his favorite athlete growing up? Every kid has a favorite player, whether it’s baseball, football, basketball. When you’re a kid, you’re completely innocent. You have no ambitions to be the president or whatever. You’re a kid enjoying sports.”
